Andy Wirth Combines Skills at Squaw Valley

Andy Wirth recently was interviewed on KCRW by Madeleine Brand for her program, “Press Play with Madeleine Brand.” Wirth is a frequent subject for local programming in the California and Nevada marketplace due to his position as head of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC.

Andy Wirth is in charge of not only Squaw Valley Ski Resort but the recently acquired Alpine Meadow Ski facility. The two adjacent ski facilities have been joined by the addition of a gondola that allows skiers to ski both mountains with the purchase of a single lift ticket.

The radio program focused on the recent drought affecting California and Nevada. Andy Wirth had all the facts at his disposal and fully explained how Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows can use technology and science to combat Mother Nature’s drought. His base of knowledge included an understanding of meteorology and a proven business sense for the operation of his ski facility for the future. Learn more about Andy Wirth:

The former backcountry ranger was aware whenever fighting fires of the dangers of winds moving forest fires toward others and so gained an understanding and appreciation of meteorology. During the program, he was asked the most vexing of problems facing the entire ski industry; the question of global warming.

Andy Wirth chose to not brush off the question as frivolous, he has, after all, an understanding of meteorology but answered it gravely by admitting that the effects of global warming may severely impact the industry. The time may even come when skiing in the continental U.S. will be only a memory.

Wirth was born in Germany and educated at the prestigious University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582. He has a strong commitment to the environment and has a well-rounded public persona that is wholly committed to Squaw Valley and now Alpine Meadows.

He is dedicated to the well-being of not only the environment but the people who live in the idyllic community and those who work for the ski resort and the many businesses dependent on the ski resort. Wirth personifies the ideal head of any enterprise. As long as he is in control of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, the resorts can only experience success.
