Health Screening Made Easy

Heath screenings can provide you with peace of mind and put you on the right track to begin taking control of your health. Lifeline makes health screening as easy as possible, and most of their screenings require little to no preparation, but what should you expect during this process?

Lifeline offers three types of screenings; ultrasound screenings, finger-stick blood screenings, and limited electrocardiograph screenings.

Ultrasound Screenings

Ultrasound screenings use sound waves to create images of structures in the body. Many people are familiar with it being used to see the growth of a fetus, but it is also used in cardiology. Lifeline Screening uses ultrasounds for:

• Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening
• Carotid artery disease screening
• Ankle-brachial index screening (for peripheral arterial disease)
• Bone mineral density screening (for osteoporosis risk)

If you are preparing for an ultrasound, remember to wear a comfortable, loose two-piece outfit. Wear a short-sleeved shirt or blouse, and do not wear pantyhose.

When preparing for an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening, you should fast for 4 hours prior to the appointment. Make sure the meal you eat 4 hours prior is light. You are allowed to have 1/2 cup of coffee/tea and water.

Finger-stick Blood Screenings

Certain risk factors for heart disease and diabetes are identified through a simple finger-stick blood screening. A few drops of blood are taken by pricking the soft-pad of the finger. The following screenings are done using this method:

• Lipid panel screening
• Glucose screening
• High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) screening
• Elevated liver enzymes screening

To prepare for the lipid panel and glucose screenings, you should fast for 8 hours prior. No preparation is required for the high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and elevated liver enzymes screening.

Electrocardiograph (EKG) Screenings

Atrial fibrillation is a common heart condition that is detected using an EKG. This screening is non-invasive, and no additional preparation is required.

The Success Of InnovaCare Health In The Provision Of Medicare Advantage Plans

There exist differences between Medicare Advantage Plans and Original Medicare. In terms of cost, under the original Medicare, an individual has to pay Medicare premiums, coinsurance and deductibles. Under the Medicare Advantage Plans, individuals pay Medicare Premiums and his or her plan’s premium as the plan sets the copay and deductibles. With the Original Medicare, one can purchase a Medigap policy. However, with the Medicare Advantage Plan, one cannot buy a Medigap policy to assist in offsetting one’s out-of-pocket costs. The Original Medicare does not provide for specified services such as dental care, hearing and vision services. Instead, it only covers outpatient and inpatient healthcare that is medically necessary. With the Medicare Advantage Plan, one may be covered against some services such as hearing, dental care and vision.

With Original Medicare, one can visit any hospital or doctor within the United States that recognizes Medicare. Individuals with HMOs that have local network of providers must use the plan to cover for their care. In case one gets outside the network, he or she should use PFFS and PPOs. However, one will pay more. The Original Medicare does not cover drugs. However, if one wants coverage on Medicare prescription drug, such as individual should purchase a separate Part D plan. Under the Medicare Advantage Plan, an individual is not provided with a separate Part D plan if he or she has the plan.
